Preview of ‘M-Theory’ comic posted

Finn posted this under Blog and Comics and Sci-Fi @ 11:15 am, June 16, 2008

Dwight L. MacPherson, the writer of “A Zombie’s Tale,” has just posted a preview of the upcoming “M-Theory” No. 1 comic at the Image Comics Web site.

Billed as “the greatest pulp science-fiction adventure of our time,” the preview certainly looks promising.

From Dwight’s posting: “In this thrilling premier episode, a government scientist receives a startling transmission of extraterrestrial origin, a promising college student makes a terrifying discovery, and a group of deep space explorers encounters a shocking nemesis at the outer limits of our galaxy!”

I dig the retro, EC Comic-inspired cover.

‘Walt Disney’

Finn posted this under Comics and Sci-Fi @ 11:57 am, May 30, 2008

Written by Matt Zitron, illustrated by Anthony Hope-Smith.

Lots of people believe “Disney on Ice” is more than an ice-skating spectacular, falling for the rumor that Mickey Mouse’s creator was cryonically frozen after death.

Not true.

In the mind-bending “Walt Disney” short comic, Matt Zitron and Anthony Hope-Smith touch on that urban legend before delving into one of the darker possibilities awaiting a man who opted to become a human popsicle with hopes of immortality.

A big thanks to Matt and Anthony (check his art blog) for letting us run the comic in its entirety (after the jump.)

Jon Favreau on ‘The Treatment’

Finn posted this under Blog and Comics and Film @ 5:23 am, May 16, 2008

Earlier this week, “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau discussed his comic book-based hit film on “The Treatment,” the KCRW public radio show hosted by film critic Elvis Mitchell.

Favreau discusses how “Iron Man” — like all his films, including “Swingers,” “Elf” and “Made” — are modeled on the Joseph Campbell archetypes famously detailed in the book “The Hero With a Thousand Faces.”

“You need a roadmap,” opines Favreau, “and why not pick the best roadmap there is?”

Explosions also help.

“The Treatment” is one of my go-to podcasts. If you’re a screenwriter or filmmaker, you’ll probably enjoy it as well.

Audio interview with ‘The Ten-Cent Plague’ author

Crime SuspenStories

If you like the classic, grisly EC Comics of the 1940s and 1950s — or the entertainment they spawned, like the “Tales from the Crypt” TV series — check out this audio interview with David Hajdu, the author of “The Ten-Cent Plague” on the Sound of Young America podcast.

The Sound of Young America: David Hajdu

Be sure to click over to the Sound of Young America site to get a good look at the gruesome cover that helped seal the (censorship-fueled) demise of . Hmm, looks familiar somehow.

‘A Zombie’s Tale’

Finn posted this under Comics and Horror @ 8:02 am, May 2, 2008

Zombie

are mindless, shambling ghouls, right?

Maybe the story is more complicated than that. In the short comic, “A Zombie’s Tale,” written by Dwight L. MacPherson, we get a look at the zombie apocalypse through the eyes of an undead New Yorker.

A big thank you to Dwight for letting us post the story in its entirety (after the jump.)

And after reading “A Zombie’s Tale,” be sure to check out http://www.myspace.com/dwightlmacpherson for lots more mind-blowing work.
